Welcome back to the Fantasy Hockey Hacks Podcast! In the seventh episode of the podcast, Devon and Bruce discuss the NHL playoffs (playoff previews for each series), news from around the NHL, and our picks for the NHL Bracket Challenge. 

Hockey News | May 10 – May 17

  • Jack Eichel’s notes “Disconnect” with the Buffalo Sabres, speculation and rumours begin circulating.  
    • Does he end up somewhere else next season?
    • Who are likely trade partners or destinations for Eichel? 
    • According to Elliott Friedman, the most likely destination would be NYR. 

  • Marc-Andre Fleury and Robin Lehner win the William M. Jennings Trophy as the goalie tandem that allowed the fewest goals. 
    • The honor is awarded to the “goaltender(s) having played a minimum of 25 games for the team with the fewest goals scored against it” in the regular season.
    • Fleury finished the regular season with a 26-10-0 record, 1.98 GAA, .928 SV% and 6 shutouts. 
    • Lehner went 13-4-2 in 19 starts with a 2.29 GAA, .913 SV% and 1 shutout.
  • New York Rangers fire coach David Quinn. President and GM, Chris Drury, will begin searching for a replacement immediately. 
    • Second tour of duty for John Tortorella?

      • Gerard Gallant – Frank Seravalli mentioned that the NYR have shown interest in Gallant.

  • According to Frank Seravalli, Tyson Barrie is set to test free agency after this season. 

  • Paul Stastny hit the 1000 games played milestone on Tuesday, May 11th. 
  • Colorado Avalanche win their final game of the season against the LA Kings, clinch division and President’s Trophy.
  • Capitals win first game of the series after OT winner by Nic Dowd. 

  • Islanders take 1-0 series lead after Kyle Palmieri scores OT winner, his second of the day. 

  • Minnesota Wild go up 1-0 after Joel Eriksson Ek’s OT winner. 

  • Brayden Point plays hero with GWG (2 goals on the night) in 5-4 regulation win over the Panthers.

    • Nikita Kucherov has 2 goals and 1 assist after missing the regular season. 19:21 Ice Time. 
    • Victor Hedman has three assists in 25:17 of ice time.
